How To Blog
Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009How To Blog
Have you ever wondered how to blog? Do you ever wonder how to get started in blogging? Well, I have read many different articles, blogs and websites that claim to teach you how to blog. Most of them have helpful information that can set you on the right track.
You might be thinking that blogging can’t be difficult at all. You write some stuff and people will read it. I can tell you right now that there is much more to blogging that just writing material and clicking the publish button.
Blogging has become an entirely new occupation. It started off as just the term weblog and you wrote in it like a diary online. In the current time blogging has become totally different. You can now blog, for fun, to make money, as a hobby, for business, popularity, education, personal development, as an occupation and even as a career.
Blogging has become very popular and much more complicated. It seems today that most people are into blogging for money. They are under the false impression that they can write whatever they want start making money. In reality it is very difficult to make money from blogging. Although it is very possible, it is very difficult because of the amount of information you need to learn and the high competition it involves.
Anyway, let’s get back to the question of how to blog. To learn how to blog you need to first ask yourself a few questions. Since there is so many ways you can blog your answers to the questions will determine what you need to learn in order to actually know how to blog.
Question 1: Why do you want to blog?
Is your interest in how to blog for educational purposes? Is it because you want to make money? You need to seriously ask yourself this question before you dare to start. You must know why you are blogging so you can have a purpose and goal. Keeping your eye on that goal is one of the most important things you can do. Never deviate from the goal.
Question 2: What do you want to blog about?
Choosing the right topic is also essential. You should choose a topic that you are either passionate about or already have a lot of knowledge about. If you don’t do this you will be stuck with trying to learn about something and writing about it at the same time. This tends to take away from the quality of your content. Not to mention it takes a lot more time.
Question 3: What platform do you want to use?
Choosing the right blogging platform isn’t too important but it can make your life a lot easier. I use Wordpress currently. I started on Google’s Blogger. If you are web and html savvy then Wordpress may be the way to go. If you know very little then go with Blogger. I never touched any other blogging platform and never saw a reason to. Wordpress is very much the standard for professional blogging and Blogger is the popular choice for beginners. Blogger is very simple and easy to use. Wordpress is very flexible and customizable.
Question 4: How much time can you spare for blogging?
Writing good content, takes time. You must be able to commit at least a few hours a week to your blogging efforts or else it will be hard to get something going. Having a full time job and kids make it real tough to have time but you can still do it. It would only take about an hour to write 1 or 2 good posts a week.
Blogging is obviously not for everyone but can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience if done correctly. Give it some thought and decide if it is right for you. Learning how to blog really comes from practice and reading other blogs. Knowing the details of certain blogging purposes is the key. Figure out your reasons to blog and just go for it. Once you get the concept down you will be sailing smooth in no time.
