  • Spring Break Is Over And My Life Is Different

April 21st, 2009 by Ben Moreno

    ('DiggThis’)

Going into spring break was very different this year.  I was not looking forward to it like normally.  I felt like I wish it was later on in the year.  I am going on my 7th month of unemployment and it is starting to bear on me mentally.  This is probably why I felt as I did about the break.

It only bothers me because in this system our self worth is defined by how much money we make.  So naturally I fear losing this because it will have a significant impact on my image.

I know that I can probably receive unemployment for another 6 months if need be, but I am worried about what others will think of me.

Let me go back to about a few months ago….

Someone turned me on to The Zeitgeist Movement videos.  The first video I watched had a profound impact on me.  There were so many things in the movie that really verified some things I had been concerned about in the previous years.  Most of what was presented in the video seemed to make a lot of sense.

Then I watched the second movie but always ended up turning it off right after the first part where they break down the  monetary system.  I think it was because I was tired at the time or passed out from drinking wine.  During the spring break I decided to look up the movies again because I wanted to finish the second one.  It was then that I realized there is now a movement dedicated to these ideals.

It was then that I learned of The Venus Project and more about Peter Joseph, the creator of the Zeitgeist videos.  I also learned of Jacque Fresco and I have to say I think he is a brilliant man.  He truly understands what is really going on with our species.  After watching a few interviews and speeches I am convinced that this 93 year old man just may know what he is talking about.

This is why I say my life has changed….

What Peter Joseph and Jacque Fresco talk about are very underlying core causes of most of our problems as a species.  They are very clear points that I never would have thought to have looked in the first place.  Why?  Because the system has tried to hide them forever.

Well I can say with full confidence that I have become a member of this movement.  I have always thought that there was something very wrong  with our world.  Once I was told that America consumes 50% of the worlds resources and wastes 15% percent of them I realized that there was something wrong.  I learned this from a high school class out of all things!

I always wondered why there were starving people in Africa.  Even at a young age, I remember thinking “WHY?!”.  What was the reason why there were starving people all over Africa when we have such abundance here.  One day someone told me, “It was because of the oppression of their government.  It is not like it is here.  They have a dictatorship.”

I then kept wondering why there was never a revolt like there was here during the civil war, like I had learned about in the text books.  That question was never answered for me.

Well, now the question is answered.  I now have a heightened awareness of our species, environment and history.  It is now clear to me why I was naturally drawn to people like Jello Biafra, George Carlin and Bill Hicks.  These people understood the world in a truthful manner and not what the established order tries to condition you into believing.

So now here I sit in my world of, “at home father”, unemployed.  I have a very strong  desire to change my current career and just get a job I can do well but without too much stress on time.  I realized that I do not want to spend the rest of my life of supporting the IT systems of corporations.  Although I am good at it, I need to find something I truly enjoy doing.

At this time I just like to think about it, but I need to have a new plan before I get a new job, or my unemployment runs out…
