The Single Most Important Idea Of All Time But We Will Reject It
April 8th, 2009 by Ben Moreno
The single most important idea of all time is, creating a resource based economy.
This idea was thought up by an engineer named Jacque Fresco. It is called, The Venus Project. The idea is that we first do a survey of all the resources on Earth so we know what is available. We then use technology of the highest possible quality to create high quality, self sustaining cities. These cities will be designed to provide all the resources human beings need to survive to everyone on Earth. The resources will be in great abundance to all.
There will be no more government, starvation, religion and money. You can have whatever you want on Earth if the resource is available. The Earth will become the government. Intelligent machines will make all the decisions based on the carrying capacity of the Earth. The only real problems will be problems that affect us all. Such as Earthquakes, meteors, storms, floods, etc.
If all the resources of the Earth were shared by all the people on Earth then we would have way less reasons to commit crimes against each other. If people did actually commit any crimes against each other then they would be treated like sick patients and would be actually studied for the purposes of finding out what it was exactly what caused them to commit such acts and a real solution would be found.
The reason I say this idea will be rejected is because the roots of our current system of competing for money are very deep and many people will not have the courage and intelligence to realize that we must go in this direction in order for our species to survive. The small groups of people all over the world who control most of the resources will not want to share. Our monetary system has actually reprogrammed our species to think only in terms of competing with other humans for the sole purpose of getting more money.
Although there are different Countries in the world with different systems. Most of them use the system that creates a currency for the use of purchasing goods and services. The underlying truths about these systems and how they truly affect society have been hidden. These systems have been hurting our species instead of helping them.

Great post. Thanks for posting it. Very true with what you have said. I am very excited about this movement. I hope to see it come to fruition within my lifetime.
Take care,
Antonio.

I hope so too.

Dude, managing natural resources is fine and all, but what is the motivation for a guy to work hard in order to allocate those resources? If you don’t have carrots and sticks in place to encourage positive behavior, you’re just going to push the monetary system underground, or have some kind of stupid inefficient barter economy. I’d like to hear a response on how this Zeitgeist thing addresses that.

Essentially what you are talking about is incentive. This is a common question we get all the time. Many people throughout society have made huge contributions simply because they wanted to. The idea is to free humanity from tedious labor all together. Once people are educated to realize that their labor not only will benefit them but it benefits the society as a whole. If you have a system that is setup to benefit all people then the harder you work at it to make life better for everyone then you are essentially making it better for yourself as well.
Also, keep in mind all of the people throughout history that have made the largest contributions to society simply because they wanted to. The huge contributions Albert Einstein made to society were not based on the want for money.
You should take a look at the FAQ on the site. I had many questions when I first started reading about this and I found answers to a lot of them there. http://www.thezeitgeistmovement.com/joomla/index.php?Itemid=65#20
Thank you for the question. Everything should always be questioned.

In a utopian society, this would work swell! Too bad we live in the world we do…

No actually, there are no utopian societies. All societies are emergent. This idea is to make the world a much better place than it is now. There can never be a utopia. Imagine the huge difference in the world if we were able to provide ALL of the world’s people with everything they need. This is what they are talking about. The idea is to simply focus technology in the direction of helping people instead of hurting people.
